Phishing Scam Targets Credit Union National Association
The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) has been tracking a dramatic increase in phishing
attacks in the last several months. Fraudulent emails that appear to come from CUNA are in circulation nationwide.
The most recent email informs recipients that they have been successfully selected in a random contest to win $500 for
being a credit union member and includes the following message:
Dear CUNA Member,
You have been successfully selected at our random contest to win the 500$ prize as one of our Credit
Union's member. To claim your prize you have to validate your Credit Union membership by completing our online form with just a click on the following link:

This survey is valid within 16th and 30th of June, 2008.
Thank you for your time!
Best regards,
CUNA Management Director,

If a member clicks the link to validate their credit union membership, they are asked to provide
their personal and financial information for verification purposes. Once this information is provided, the crooks
gain access to the victim’s financial information to steal their identity and assets.
This type of email is called Phishing, where criminals pose as a legitimate institution to gain access to members’ personal and financial information.
